Listening to Japan

Posted on 30 April 202018 June 2022 by Annie

My first introduction to Origami, the Japanese art of folding intricate flowers, objects and animals from one square sheet of paper, was actually a search for creative ways to gift money to friends. I’ve folded a lot of (Dollar and Euro) bills, but I felt for this virtual trip to Japan it had to be the real deal. So, I tried my hands at this lovely creature. Can you guess what this is?

I’ve been listening through all kinds of music from Japan and exploring its musical history. In doing so, I curated a Spotify playlist with my favorite discoveries. This playlist follows only two rules: I include artists from or strongly connected with Japan and I include a maximum of two songs by the same artist. Everything else depends on my own eclectic and offbeat taste in music, which I hope you enjoy. Listen to my Spotify Playlist with amazing music from Japan from various centuries and find your new favorite song. Maybe it’s Haruomi Hosono’s “Sports Men” or Hako Yamazaki’s “Yokohama”?

And the little origami depicted is a peacock! If you’d like to try your hands on one yourself, follow along this instructional video.
